  7. The INIT 17 virus was discovered in New Brunswick, Canada, in April,

  13. The virus infects both the System file and application files. It does not

  15. infect document files.

  19. The virus displays the message ‚ÄúFrom the depths of Cyberspace‚Äù the

  21. first time an infected Macintosh is restarted after 6:06:06 A.M. on
  22.  
  23. October 31, 1993. After this message has been displayed once, it is not

  25. displayed again.

  29. The virus contains many errors which can cause crashes and other
  30.  
  31. problems. In particular, it causes crashes on Macintoshes with the 68000
  32.  
  33. processor, like the Mac Plus, SE, and Classic.

  37. For technical reasons, the virus does not infect some applications, and on
  38.  
  39. some systems, it does not spread at all. It does, however, spread under
  40.  
  41. both System 6 and System 7.
